Unfortunately, Piper's lack of obedience to God's word in 1 Corinthians 15:33 "Do not be deceived: 'Bad company ruins good morals.'" continued to perpetuate his decline in discernment as he extended an invitation to Rick Warren (2010) and Louie Giglio (2011) to be speakers at his Desiring God National Conferences as well. ![]() Though Piper was questioned and criticized (and by some, too harshly and unbiblically), he stood by his young protégé and extended two more invitations to speak at their national conference (20), though Driscoll proved to continue to get carried away by strange and unbiblical behavior like having pornographic divinations about other people's lives, and speaking harshly, including name calling to rebuke those within his church. ![]() ![]() ![]() But in 2006, there was an uproar within the Christian community after John Piper extended an invitation to a young, filthy mouthed, unabashed preacher from Washington state, Mark Driscoll, to be one of the speakers at his Desiring God National Conference. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Definitely worth a listen, especially if used for teaching or as an aid to study. ![]() But, since the emphasis did fall on the important parts of the line (to clarify the meaning of those words by making it obvious that they were meant to be significant), this performance could be a good introduction to Shakespeare for first (or second or third) time readers, who are not yet accustomed to Shakespeare's syntax, style, and vocabulary. The villainous Iago plans and executes his elaborate revenge on Othello. This effect can be powerful when sprinkled in, but tended (in my opinion) to hamper the lines' ability to communicate. O thello by William Shakespeare is a tragic play of jealousy and deceit set in Venice. Iago's lines were often delivered in a really low tone and with a halting pace. There is no lack of emotional power in the lines of this play in themselves, but the actors seemed over-zealous to emphasize the emotional stress in their lines so that at times Othello, Cassio, Iago, Desdemona, Emilia, and Roderigo's lines came off as affected. The Arkangel voice actors put out a lot of energy into their lines, but the cadence tender to be jarring at times.
